 Reflexology

What is reflexology?

All systems of the physical body, e.g. skeletal, vascular, muscular have a corresponding reflex point in the foot or hand. There are nerve pathways (Meridians) that link these points to the corresponding body part. Sometimes these pathways become congested and physical symptoms are felt. Thus by using pressure techniques on the feet to either stimulate or sedate the reflex points congestions can be cleared so that the pathways can flow freely again. This helps the body to heal the physical symptoms.

Reflexology is a very safe and gentle holistic therapy.

Reflexology in pregnancy

During pregnancy the body goes through incredible physical, emotional and hormonal changes. Maternity reflexology given by a qualified therapist will gently guide your body through this process, encouraging the pathways (meridians) to be free flowing. This will help prevent or aid recovery from ailments pregnancy and childbirth can bring.

With the permission of your primary maternity care providers you can build Reflexology into your birth plan.

Reflexology can help keep your body calm and in control, making labour and delivery an enjoyable experience as possible.

Once your baby is born, your lives are thrown into overdrive; loss of sleep, strange routines, lactation, stress, frustration, tiredness, loss of energy. Reflexology can help put all these things into perspective, keeping you calm and helping you to cope should it become difficult.

Maternity reflexology also has a good success rate in helping with infertility it is completely natural and non invasive.

The Treatment Session

Before treatment commences a detailed medical history will be taken plus details of any current symptoms, medication or other treatments being received; all information is treated in the strictest confidence. Sleeping habits, emotional conditions and lifestyle are also noted.

Because Reflexology treats you as a whole person, it is necessary to have an understanding of all the factors that may be affecting your health; this allows the therapist to focus on the kind of treatment, which will be appropriate to you as an individual.

During a reflexology treatment you sit comfortably with your feet and legs supported. You need only remove your socks and shoes. The whole body is treated each session through the feet or hands if conditions dictate.

The number of treatment sessions needed will vary depending on the individual and the condition being treated.
